Meteo Comp

Wind speed and direction system with display

The Meteo Comp is a complete, cost effective, ready to use, wind speed, wind direction and external temperature measurement system.

Comprising:

Outdoor components

  • a combined cup and vane anemometer (wind speed and direction sensor) with a temperature sensor located in the mounting arm of the wind speed indicator
  • *20 m of cable to run between anemometer and display (* please note that the cable length cannot be extended as the display unit is adjusted for 20 m and an extension can cause incorrect measurements).

Indoor components
  • digital LED wind speed and direction display with power adapter and "plug and play" connector to the display
  • 1.5 m approx of power cable (from mains power adapter to the display)

Features

  • very cost effective, reliable and accurate weather station
  • suitable for small business, school or home users
  • easy read display provides instantaneous and maximum values
  • simple and easy installation

What it does

The Meteo Comp system provides the following information:
  • wind velocity in m/s, km/h or Beaufort
  • temperature in °C, °F or wind chill temperature
  • displays the min.-max. values of all the measurement units occurring within the preceding 24 hours

How to Install

The Meteo Comp system is easy to install and should be located in an open area with no obstructions to the wind flow i.e. half a metre above the peak of a roof. It is secured by tightening the screws on the shaft of the anemometer onto a 30 mm diameter pole*. The display can be free standing on a table or wall mounted. Once the cables are connected and the display is plugged into the mains the Meteo Comp will measure the wind and temperature and output the data to the LED display.

(* pole and mounting screws not supplied)

Data can also be output to a PC

As well as viewing the data on the LED display the data can also be output from the display unit directly to a PC via RS232 serial connection.

It can be viewed as an ASCII string using Terminal or HyperTerminal (free program with Microsoft Windows)

Example of ASCII string whereby column 1 = windspeed (m/s, km/h or Beaufort), column 2 = wind direction (0 - 360º) and column 3 = temperature (ºC, ºF or wind chill):

1.2 270.0 22.9
2.4 292.5 23.0
1.6 292.5 23.0
1.6 315.0 23.0
0.8 315.0 23.0

Meteo-Online Software

Alternatively the optional Meteo-Online graphical software can be used for enhanced viewing.
The software is capable of data logging as well as display with the ability to set up individual hour files or day files. In addition Meteo-Online is internally divided into two programs: Server and Display . Meteo-Online offers the possibility to install the data server (OwServer.EXE), and the display (MeteoOnline.EXE) on different PC's.

These are two independent programs interchanging data. The server’s task is to process the data from the connected instruments, to document them, and to hold them available for display (client). The display program queries cyclically the data from the server and displays them in graphical form.

This structure has the following advantages:

  • The server is able to document data without display.
  • The server is able to administrate several terminals at the same time (limited only by the number of physical interfaces).
  • Server and display can run on different computers in a network.
  • Several display programs can simultaneously access one server.
  • The server is started automatically on booting the PC, and documents the data in the background.
  • The display is started only on request.

2 versions of Meteo-Online

There are 2 versions of the Meteo-Online graphical software available, namely the standard version and the advanced version. The advanced software includes data monitoring functions to check the incoming measuring values on threshold values or alarm parameters.

It is possible to connect several meteorological instruments to the Meteo-Online providing the instruments have serial data outputs and can be connected to the PC.

PC-PROGRAM METEO ONLINE 9.1700.98.000 The software Meteo-Online is a WINDOWS Program, compatible with WINDOWS 98/2000/XP/2003. It serves for the visualization and documentation of meteorological measuring values. The visualisation is carried out alternatively in graphical form as diagram and/or with text. The user has the possibility to place the display-elements free on the screen. The documentation can be recorded in hourís- or dayís files with selectable averaging periods for the respective parameters. The documentation files are ASCII-files, and can be imported, for example, directly into EXCEL. All THIES instruments with serial data output can be connected via the serial interface of a PC. According to the number of serial interfaces it is possible to administrate several instruments at the same time. The Client Server Concept offers the possibility of documenting data in the background without active visualisation.
