Classic Combined Wind Speed and Direction Sensor

The Classic Combined Wind Speed and Direction Sensor measures the horizontal wind speed and direction with an analogue output which can be transmitted to a display, recording instrument, datalogger as well as a process control system. For winter operation the sensor is equipped with electronicaly regulated heating in order to guarantee the smooth running of the ball bearings and to avoid ice formation at the slot of the outer rotating parts. The electrical supply of the sensor heating is provided by a power supply such as model 9.3388.00.000.

The housing of the cup star and wind vane are made of varnished anodised aluminium and the bow is stainless steel. Labyrinth seals and o-rings protect the sensitive internal parts from precipitation. The instrument is designed for mounting to a mast tube and the electrical plug connection is situated in the transmitter shaft.

A low inertia light metal cup star (in ball bearings) is set into rotation by the wind. The opto electronic revolution scanning produces a pulse frequency which is transformed into the analogue signal by means of an integrated measuring transducer.

The sensor has a measuring range of 0.3 - 50 m/s wind speed and 0 - 360 degrees wind direction. The operating voltage (heating) 24VAC/DC, max 20W. The plug connection is situated in the shaft of the instrument. Ideally the sensor should be mounted on a mast or traverse.

The SHIP VERSION is designed for heavy mechanical load for use on ships and wind energy plants. They have a short wind vane, reinforced cup star and special ball-bearings.
