When do I need a heated anemometer at my installation site?

  • If you need to ensure maximum data availability regardless of the weather conditions.

  • If you need to ensure maximum data availability with added confidence at remote locations.

  • If your site is prone to freezing rain or other forms of freezing precipitation.

  • If you experience prolonged durations of snowfall at your site.

  • If temperatures fall below 5ºC (approx 40º F) and condensation starts to form on metallic surfaces either on the anemometer or around your site.

The range of heated ultrasonic anemometers have a heating element that has a uniquely high heating efficiency, where relatively low power input is needed (only the key areas are heated when required). This will allow the sensors to operate in  condensing environments with temperatures down to -40º C (-40º F).

There are 4 heated models to choose from:

Wind Horizon 200 model - (2-axis heating / digital output)
Wind Horizon 400 model - (2 axis heating /digital and analogue output)
Wind Wind Professional 200 model - (3-axis heating / digital output)
Wind Research 200 model - (3-axis strong heating / digital output)

The benefits of using a heated ultrasonic anemometer from Biral

Generally all ultrasonic anemometers have the following features:

  • reliable measurement of horizontal wind speed and direction
  • no moving parts
  • require no maintenance
  • provide excellent repeatability of data and error accuracy
  • those with both digital and analogue
  • can be easily interface / connection to existing systems
  • data can be polled, output automatically or averaged

Features specific to the Wind Horizon, Wind Professional and Wind Research range of ultrasonic sensors:

  • rugged stainless steel construction suitable for use in harsh conditions
  • transducers are housed within the stainless steel body eliminating danger of salt spray and damage from birds
  • user adjustable real-time data quality checks
  • high heating efficiency, where relatively low power input is needed as only the key areas are heated when required which also avoids unnecessary power loss
  • all data is date time stamped
  • The heated sensors are flexible and can be customised incorporating features from more than one model.

The sensors are of an extremely high quality designed to give many years of reliable and accurate service.

These sensors have a unique data quality checking system whereby each instantaneous measurement is checked and the result recorded in the output data string as a percentage of reliability (i.e. 100% would indicate that you can have total confidence in the measurement whereas 80% would suggest that an external or environmental influence is affecting measurement accuracy and you should be aware of this).
