Samples of Mobile Phase Doppler SODAR and RASS
Measured at Marseille (ESCOMPTE 2001)
General
In order to demonstrate features and performance of the small SODAR 24 and the 1290
MHz RASS extension Metek installed such system to take part within the French experiment
ESCOMPTE near Marseille. The site was often influenced by a well developed land/sea breeze
and katabatic wind flow effects.
Data Retrieval
Simultaneously instantaneous and averaged data were calculated by the SODAR. In
addition to the mean spectra derived data an off-line cluster algorithm was applied on the
instantaneous data for wind speed and wind direction derivation.

Shown Samples
A one week period of wind vectors and potential temperatures
(corrected by 0.98 /100 m) are shown in the following plots. Wind speed and wind direction
are derived from instantaneous data and temperature is derived from mean spectra in order
to show that both analysing techniques are available simultaneously. On both data a small
averaging procedure (SF1) was applied to smooth measuring variables during convective
conditions.
