How to order

There are three instruments in this section which measure the beginning and end of precipitation:

The models RS85 and  5.4103.10.000 both measure the start and end of precipitation while the Clima 2000 sensors also measure brightness and / or wind, temperature and humidity.

The  5.4103.10.000 is the cost-effective entry level model whilst the RS85 has a larger detection area with gold plated surfaces and far greater accuracy which includes 2 levels of heating.

RS85

The RS 85 is designed to detect the beginning and end of precipitation. Like the precipitation monitor it can be used for controlling closure settings, collection apparatus and status monitoring. It is suitable for almost all climatic conditions including snow fall.

The electronics are enclosed in a weatherproof housing. The electronic measurement and heating areas form the cover to the waterproof housing. The sensor surfaces are arranged in a pyramid of 15° to ensure that the rain water readily runs off for better accuracy. There are vertical pins appropriately placed to better measure snowfall by capturing snowflakes on the four measurement areas. As protection against corrosion and to further add to the measurement sensitivity both the sensor surfaces and the pins are gold plated.

The built in 2-step electronic heating is proportionally controlled and can be adjusted to the needs of the user. The lower step is active in basic operation. The second more powerful heating-step is activated as soon as there is a rain signal, so the fluid on the surface can evaporate faster.

Features
  • large sensitive, gold plated sensor surfaces (approx. 60 cm²)
  • vertical pins in four directions
  • adjustable, proportionally controlled heating of the sensor surfaces in two levels
  • adjustable and user definable relay delay

RS85 Rain Presence Sensor

What it does

When it rains the water enables the completion of an electrical connection between the individual electrodes on the sensor surface. This activates an electronic switch which closes a relay. The sensitivity of the operating threshold may be adjusted by the user to fit his needs. After the sensor surfaces have dried, the relay is switched off. The point in time at which the switch-off occurs is determined by the following factors: present temperature for the sensor, environmental factors, temperature, humidity, wind, etc..

PRECIPITATION MONITOR 5.4103.10.x00

The precipitation monitor detects the beginning and the end of precipitation as well as the duration of the precipitation. It can be used for status reporting, or to transmit control signals to connected rain protection devices such as windows, awnings or Venetian blinds. It is supplied with a mast holder which can be used for wall mounting if required.
Rain Precipitation Monitor 54103.10.x00

What it does
Precipitation in the form of drizzle, rain, snow or hail is detected opto-electronically by a IR light barrier system which triggers a relay-contact in the connected electronics to signal the state of precipitation. There is a built-in incidence-filter to ensure that individual incidences such as leafs, bird droppings and insects etc landing on the sensor do not trigger the switch unnecessarily. This works by setting the number of incidences (between 1 and 15) that should occur within 50 sec. This number of drop incidences can be selected through the DIP-switch on the pc-board. With the precipitation end the switching signal is reset after a selectable switch-off delay.

Thanks to the immediate evaluation of the incidences it is possible to determine precisely the beginning and end of the precipitation period.

The sensor is equipped with a heating system for extreme weather condition. This avoids ice and snow forming on the housing surface. In addition, the surface retains a temperature of >0° by means of regulated heating.

CLIMA 2000 monitors precipitation combined with other parameters

All of the 4 models in the Clima 2000 sensor range measure the beginning and end of precipitation but depending on the model they also measure some or all of the following parameters:
  • wind speed
  • brightness
  • temperature
  • air humidity
