MRR data files
Selecting data settings
The MRR can be set up to save a combination of raw, instantaneous and averaged data. These
settings are flexible allowing data to be saved / stored only if it is raining or only
from specific heights etc as required.
Saving data files
It is strongly advised to save the raw and averaged data as these files will provide the
processed data as well as the ability to go back and modify or correct any issues that may
be identified later when doing quality checks.
In addition, when later free upgrades are offered, it could be possible to derive more
from the previously collected raw data which cannot be done with processed data (or not
without having to do some serious post processing).
File sizes
This will depend on the settings selecting but on average, when using the maximum data
collection settings ie saving data for all heights, all data formats, one minute files and
regardless of whether it is raining or not, the file size would be about 410 Mb per day.
This equates to:
Raw data: 120 Mb / day
Instantaneous data: 250 Mb / day
Averaged data: 40 Mb / day
Additionally the data size will depend on the averaging period (which can be set to one
minute maximum rate or reduced to slower rates of 10 minutes or otherwise depending on
your needs.)
Reducing file sizes
If the MRR is operated automatically 24/7 there is an optional program which can reduce
the files to around a tenth of their original size. It is easy to install and configure
and automatically compresses data files at the end of each day (typically set for
around 3 am by default).
