The VF-500 visibility sensor in a typical lighthouse application
(St Anthony's Lighthouse) to switch a fog horn. These sensors
are used world-wide for fog horn switching applications on
lighthouses, offshore platforms and harbours.

The VPF-710 visibility sensor is used on wind turbines for the intelligent
switching of warning light intensities. The visibility sensor is mounted on
the turbine hub behind the blades.

Bramblemet Weather Station in the Solent Channel The Bramblemet station in the Solent estuary uses the VPF-710 model.
This model is often used in marine applications where a digital
output is required rather than the VF-500's analogue output.

The SuperAWOS uses the VPF-710 for visibility measurements


 

SuperAWOS, the US FAA approved AWOS system for smaller
and unmanned airports.  The SuperAWOS uses the VPF-710
visibility sensor to automatically determine the surface visibility.

VPF-730 in use at Waterford Airport In airport applications:

The VPF-730 visibility and present weather sensors are used in airport and RVR (Runway Visual Range) applications on both military and civilian airfields.

In this RVR airport application the VPF-730 is used with the ambient light sensor (also known as background luminance sensor) which can be seen in these pictures mounted on the mast just below the sensor.

  
VPF-730 used as part of AGI's AGVIS FSI RVR system The VPF-730 is used in the Runway Visual Range system from AGI Ltd (Aeronautical & General Instruments). Called the AGVIS FSI Forward Scatter System this RVR system is a low cost alternative to airfield transmissometer technology.
