Biral (Bristol Industrial and Research Associates Ltd) has relocated its
sales and marketing operations to its development and production facility in Portishead,
Bristol. The 5000sq ft purpose-designed unit now houses the full company and is capable of
supporting future growth. Strengthening the emphasis already given to the rapidly
developing design and manufacturing portion of its traditional business, the move
highlights Biral's focus on growth markets.
Biral maintains its position as the
leading supplier of other companies' weather sensors to the UK market, in addition to
manufacturing and supplying its own meteorological and particle analysis products to a
broad range of markets world-wide. For instance, Biral's products currently include
industry-leading HSS visibility and present weather sensors for use in weather modelling,
roadside and offshore applications. Utilising Biral's own proprietary "ASAS Technology", particle analysis
instruments address military and civil defence biodetection markets. Furthermore, this
product area is now finding exciting new applications within pharmaceutical formulation
and process control.
Biral
also continues to offer custom engineering, supporting customers with specialist design
and development needs for instruments or systems. With in-depth expertise for optical,
electronic, software and mechanical design the company can tackle a very wide range of
problems. Example of successful contracts include: aerosol detection and characterisation
equipment for Government research, biodetection equipment for the British Armed Forces,
custom software for instrumentation, and turnkey projects to supply production-line test
equipment.
Commenting on the move, Biral's
Director and General Manager Paul Smith said: "Physically bringing together the sales
and marketing with our high-technology design and production activities under one roof
will streamline communications and provide more space for expansion. Manufacturing and
custom engineering is now becoming an increasingly prominent part of Biral's business. To
achieve further growth, we have also established a department dedicated to business
development. This is a very positive step for us and the function is headed by Dr Charles
Haythornthwaite."
