Dr Matthew Shelton joined Biral at
the end of 2003 as Project Scientist, which involves the review of existing Biral products
as well as the development and evaluation of new technologies.
After studying Physics at undergraduate level, Matt continued to gain his Applied
Optics MSc and a PhD in Applied Laser Photonics. Matt worked at Manchester University as a
post-doctoral research associate, where he was involved in the development of fibre lasers
and in particular fibre grating manufacture and pulsed lasers. Matt was also a consultant
at Manchester University advising a local organisation on technology developments leading
to potential market release of a new product.

Matt has joined Biral with his considerable experience in optics and lasers (components,
alignment and use), along with his broad knowledge of general engineering.
